Pneumatic Flow Aids use controlled compressed air to deliver sudden targeted blasts, aerate stored material, or generate acoustic energy to improve material flow in bins, hoppers, silos, chutes, ducts, filters, and process vessels to keep them operating reliably. Industrial Vibrators remain the right answer in many applications, especially where controlled vibration is the most efficient way to move, settle, convey, compact, or release material. In other applications, a pneumatic flow aid may be preferred because it works without structural vibration, can be directed at a specific problem area, introduces air into the stored material, or cleans buildup from surfaces that are difficult to reach mechanically.

AIRMATIC offers several pneumatic flow aid technologies so customers can match the solution to the material, vessel design, operating conditions, and flow problem. Read more »

Air Cannons/Blasters deliver powerful bursts of compressed air to break bridges, ratholes, and stubborn accumulations. Bin Aerators/Fluidizers introduce low-pressure air at the vessel wall to encourage material movement. Bin Air Pads provide broad-area aeration for powders and fine granular materials. Pulsed-Air Flow Stimulators use timed air pulses to activate localized flow zones. Sonic Horn Acoustic Cleaners use sound energy to help remove buildup without physical contact. Together, these options help plant operators improve flow, reduce downtime, and protect production.

These products and systems all use compressed air at plant pressures of 10 PSI to 125 PSI (product and application-specific) on an intermittent or continuous basis to address flow and build-up problems. Recognizing the need for a flow aid device is step one. Step two is choosing the right device or system for your application. For over 80 years we've been helping Customers do just that. Types of Air Cannons/Blasters, Bin Aeration, & Sonic Horns

Air Cannons, Parts & Accessories

For use in large storage vessels which can handle large amounts of pressure. Best for high-entanglement applications such as wood chips. Quietly supplies an instantaneous blast of air to de-clog, dislodge, or prevent bulk solids build-up and blockage. Choose single-valve and multi-valve systems to manage several bins, kilns, silos, or hoppers simultaneously.

Fluidizers/Aerators

Aerators and fluidizers use low-pressure compressed air to promote consistent material flow in bins, silos, hoppers, and dry bulk trailers. Available as complete assemblies, replacement discs, boots, stems, fittings, filters, cones, and related accessories, these components help reduce bridging, ratholing, packing, and unloading delays without aggressive vibration. Properly selected aeration equipment supports cleaner, safer, and more reliable bulk material handling.

Pulsed Air Stimulators & Mounts

Pulsed-Air Flow Stimulators use short, controlled bursts of compressed air to break material-to-wall friction and restore the movement of powders and bulk solids. Installed on bins, silos, hoppers, chutes, and process vessels, they act directly at the vessel wall without continuously aerating the material or mechanically vibrating the structure itself.

Air Pads & Mounts

Diffuse low-pressure air into a silo, bin, or hopper to promote flow of dry, fine materials and prevent buildup. Aeration pads can be easily retrofitted into an existing system form outside the vessel, are inexpensive, and adapt to any bin configuration.

Acoustic Sonic Horns & Parts

Low-frequency, high-pressure energy sound waves can vibrate dry particulates without vibrating the steel, ceramic, or concrete vessel where the particulates are stored. Sonic horns are appropriate where particulate build-up must be removed from filter bags, precipitators, ducts, spray dryers, cyclones, and exchangers, and for some bridging and side-wall build-up problems in storage vessels.

Timers & Controllers

Our advanced programmable timers and controllers provide flexible scheduling options, allowing for routine or on-demand activation of bin aerators, air cannons, and sonic horns. By effectively addressing common flow problems associated with particulates, powders, and bulk solids, our solutions ensure smoother operations and reduce downtime. The intuitive interfaces make setup and adjustments quick and easy, while the robust construction guarantees long-term reliability in harsh industrial environments. Ideal for industries such as mining, agriculture, and manufacturing, our programmable timers and controllers are essential tools for enhancing productivity and minimizing energy and maintenance costs.

Problems Solved with Flow Aids from AIRMATIC

In bulk material handling, issues like funneling, ratholing, plugging, doming/arching, bridging, caking, and scale build-up often occur in bins, hoppers, and silos. These flow problems can disrupt operations, reduce efficiency, and lead to costly downtime. The selection of flow aid equipment, such as rotary or linear vibrators, air cannons, bin aerators, fluidizers, or sonic horns, depends on the characteristics of the bulk material, the type of flow obstruction, and the containment structure.

Air cannons work by blasting powerful bursts of compressed air into the bin or silo, dislodging material buildup and preventing plugging and doming/arching in difficult-to-reach areas. This method is particularly effective for sticky, moist, or fibrous materials.

Bin aerators are suitable for fine, dry powders that tend to compact and cause caking or bridging. These devices introduce low-pressure air into the bulk material to aerate it, reducing material compaction and promoting smooth discharge.

Sonic horns utilize low-frequency sound waves to vibrate the walls of the structure, loosening materials like dust or fine particles, addressing caking and scale build-up.

Rotary and linear vibrators are ideal for materials prone to bridging or ratholing, where internal friction and cohesive forces cause obstructions. Vibrators induce mechanical agitation, breaking these blockages by shaking the structure and material, facilitating consistent flow.

By matching the appropriate equipment to the specific flow problem, facilities can maintain uninterrupted material flow and ensure operational efficiency.
